LightWorks, Inc. was formed in March 2002 by founder, Kathi Vandel, P.E. Kathi has over 20 years of experience in lighting design and electrical engineering for both commercial and residential construction. Kathi enjoys the process of lighting design. From concept to reality, keeping focused on the end product, while maintaining a true sense of the team environment. She has a commitment for designing spaces that are maintainable and will endure the passage of time. She strives to design for what is smart, feels good, and looks fabulous – while creating a sense of place. Integrating her engineering background with her natural creativity are a unique blend quite fitting for integration of light and architecture to maximize the impact of the built environment.

In October 2003, Allyson Evans joined LightWorks as a lighting and electrical designer. Allyson comes with a diverse design background in different types of commercial spaces and an excellent working knowledge of numerous computer applications. She believes that architectural illumination must not only be functional, but creative, ergonomic and environmentally conscious. This philosophy is reflected throughout her diverse resume of projects in areas of hospitality, entertainment, and healthcare.

In early 2008, Trey Wiley joined LightWorks as an engineer and lighting designer. In his design methodology, Trey focuses on the nuts and bolts of how a lighting system can be integrated into the architecture of the building. It is important to him that a good lighting designer understands how the fixture will be installed. He works closely with the architectural details to find a design that is both beautiful and buildable.

LightWorks focuses on lighting design while providing exceptional service to clients. As electrical engineers, we combine the engineered science of illumination with the art of light. Given that, LightWorks also designs with the end result in mind - affordability, installability, and maintainability.

LightWorks offers a friendly, team approach to design that counts on communication, coordination, and involvement from all parties. We have a unique method of officing, but it works for us. Allyson and Trey home office but make regular visits to the main office and all are in constant communication with each other. Having individual inspirational work spaces fosters creativity and actually lends a nice hand to productivity!

LightWorks, Inc. is certified as a Woman Business Enterprise by the City of Kansas City, MO and has national certification with the WBENC.
